You lie! about your defense voting record

September 10, 2012

Congressman Ryan voted for (and called its passage a victory) the Budget Control Act that triggered automatic cuts in defense spending; but now he says, no, he didn’t vote for cuts in defense spending, he voted for “a mechanism [in the Budget Control Act] that says a sequester will occur” if cuts aren’t made, and they were, including almost $1T in defense cuts.  I.e. he says he didn’t vote for something called “defense cuts,” he voted for something that he calls “a mechanism” [the BCA] that includes defense cuts.  So one is “mistaken” if one says that he voted for “defense cuts”; he didn’t vote for defense cuts.
