You lie! about your lie

September 4, 2012

Paul Ryan said that President Obama said during his campaign in 2008 that he would prevent an auto plant from closing, and he didn’t.  But the plant was closed under Bush.

Now, when called on his lie, Ryan responds:

“What they are trying to suggest is that I said Barack Obama was responsible for the plant shutdown in Janesville. That is not what I was saying; read the speech. What I was saying is the president ought to be held to account for his broken promises. After the plant was shut down, he said he would lead efforts to restore the plant. It’s still idle,” said Ryan on NBC’s “Today.”

And note:  Obama never promised to keep the plant open, he said that with adequate help from the government it could survive; and he never said that he would lead efforts to restore the plant.

Ryan’s habit is to try to leave himself just enough wiggle room that if necessary he can weasel out of his prevarications.
