Gun morality/legality

July 27, 2012

Conservatives substitute legality for morality, which isn’t surprising since for them morality is “the letter of the law.”  But so much harm is done to Americans by persons using guns that it is immoral for us, as a people, not to take actions, including regulatory laws, to lessen the damage being done.

Good law follows from morality, which is “the spirit of the law,” justice.  And yes, we CAN legislate morality.

It’s easy for corporations, and the actual persons who control them, to break the law, because it’s built into corporate culture, including a legalistic rationalization for bad behavior, called “fiduciary responsibility” to stockholders.  It’s harder for persons to break morality, especially when people are watching.
